About the Centre

Our History

The Natural Health Centre was established in 2009 when Dr. Colette Szalay and her husband Scott purchased the building after settling in Barry’s Bay with their young son. What began as a small three-practitioner clinic has since grown into a two-level facility with ten treatment rooms and over fourteen health professionals.

Originally built in 1938, the building has undergone two major renovations to modernize the space and make both floors fully wheelchair accessible, with ample paved parking on site. Today, the Centre stands as a landmark wellness destination in the heart of Barry’s Bay, offering general health, mental well-being, and support services, along with office space for not-for-profit organizations.

Dr. Szalay, originally from Toronto, relocated to the area after several years of chiropractic practice in Peterborough. Drawn to the region through family ties and a desire for a slower, more balanced lifestyle, she and her family chose Barry’s Bay as the ideal place to live and work.

Our Philosophy

The Natural Health Centre was founded on a vision of creating a welcoming, collaborative space where people could access natural and alternative health services under one roof. This vision reflects a belief in the body’s innate capacity for healing and the importance of supporting physical, mental, and emotional well-being through integrative, preventative care.

As interest in natural and holistic medicine continues to grow, the Centre remains committed to helping individuals take a proactive approach to their health. By emphasizing prevention, balance, and long-term vitality, the Natural Health Centre supports people in living fuller, healthier lives and serves as a trusted wellness resource for the Madawaska Valley community, as well as visiting cottagers and tourists.
